How caller anonymization works
Fans are anonymous to creators by design, not by policy. This page explains the mechanism and — just as importantly — what it does not cover.
The short version
A creator never sees your real phone number, email address, or name. The creator sees an alias like `Caller K7F2A`. The same fan appears as a different alias to every different creator, so two creators comparing notes cannot work out they are talking about the same person.
How it works
When a call or checkout reaches us, your phone number or email is put through a one-way hash — a mathematical function that turns it into a fixed string and cannot be reversed to recover the original. That hash, not your number, is what gets written to our database.
The hash is combined with a secret value unique to each creator before it is computed. This is what produces a different result per creator from the same input, and it is why the aliases cannot be cross-referenced. Those per-creator secrets are encrypted at rest.
Two deliberate details:
The hashing happens at the boundary, not later. Your real number is converted as it enters our systems, before it is stored. It is not written somewhere first and cleaned up afterwards.
The alias is random, not sequential. You are `Caller K7F2A`, not `Caller #4`. A sequential number would leak information — a creator could tell who arrived first, or how many fans that creator has. A random alias leaks nothing.
What we hold, precisely
About a fan we hold: a per-creator hash of your phone number or email, call timestamps and durations, a payment token, and — only if you created an account — the email address on that account.
We do not hold: your raw phone number in storage, your name, or your card number.
Your payment identity sits with the payment processor, not with us. Our processor is the merchant of record, so it holds the billing relationship and the card identity. That is deliberate: it keeps that data out of our systems entirely.
The honest limits — please read this part
We would rather you trust this because it is accurate than because it sounds absolute.
Hashes are still personal data. A one-way hash is not the same as deleting you. Because it is stable, it can link your activity over time with a given creator. Data-protection law treats it as personal data and so do we — hashed identifiers are covered by your rights under the Privacy Policy.
Telephony providers see a real phone number. Routing a call requires the actual number — that is what routing is. It is hashed at our boundary, but the carrier that connects the call necessarily handled it. No platform can avoid this.
What you say is not anonymised. Anonymization protects your *identity*, not the *content* of a conversation. If you tell a persona your name, where you work, or where you live, that is in the transcript for its 30-day retention, and in the persona's memory until deleted. The system cannot un-know something you chose to say. If you want to stay anonymous, do not volunteer identifying details.
Lawful requests still apply. Anonymization is not a shield against valid legal process. What we can produce is limited by what we actually hold — which is the list above, not your identity — and that is set out honestly in the Law Enforcement Guidelines.
What creators see and cannot do
A creator sees your alias, when you called, and how long for, and can block an alias.
A creator cannot: see your number, email, or name; contact you outside the platform; or match your alias to how you appear to any other creator. Attempting to defeat anonymization, or to identify a creator or another fan, breaches the Acceptable Use Policy.
Your rights over anonymized data
Because hashes are personal data, your rights apply to them. You can ask for access, correction, or deletion — see the Privacy Policy. Deleting your data removes the hash and the memory associated with it, subject to records we are legally required to keep.
